IPL Photorejuvenation is an effective treatment to reduce pigment, sunspots and vessels on the face and body. Intense pulsed light utilizes light energy to absorb melanin, (dark pigment in hair and skin) and haemoglobin (red colour in your blood vessels). The light energy is converted to heat (selective thermolysis) which damages the target cells without damaging the skin’s surface. This is an effective non-invasive treatment for many skin conditions.
Is IPL treatment suitable for your skin type?
As a general rule the lighter the skin the more suitable IPL treatment is for you. IPL works best when there is a marked contrast between the pigment to be treated e.g. age spot, and the surrounding skin.
Dark hair and dark skin is generally not suitable for this treatment. If you are unsure the Dermal Therapist will advise you during your complimentary consultation if this treatment is suitable for you.
Photorejuvenation
- Pigmented lesions require 1 – 3 treatments 1 – 4 weeks apart (weekly treatments for face and 4 weeks apart for the body). This is due to different healing cycles between face and body skin). A 70% – 90% reduction of pigment is expected. Visible improvements are seen after each session.
- Vascular lesions or generalised redness require 3 – 4 treatments at weekly intervals to achieve the best results. Visible difference in the skin is noted 3 weeks after the last treatment.
- Photorejuvenation also stimulates collagen production within the skin and is also suitable for preparation for facial plastic surgery. In consultation with your surgeon, a course of IPL pre/post surgery will assist in improving the skin’s general condition and stimulate healing. Most patients find their skin is luminous, smoother, firmer and clearer after a course of treatments.
